Talk Therapy

Claudia Harding

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and have been practicing in the field of mental health for over 15 years. My concentrations include treatment of mood disorders, relationship difficulties, and life coaching. In addition to private practice, I’m on the faculty in the Family Medicine Residency Program at MedStar Franklin Square Hospital and Georgetown University School of Medicine, where I teach medical students and residents about the integration of mental health, wellness, and health behavior change into primary care.

The fundamental philosophy of my teaching and practice is that people are inherently capable of change. I believe that with mindfulness and support there is limitless opportunity for one’s growth and development. In my experience, I have found that by helping clients increase their awareness of themselves, their interactions with others, and the behaviors that inhibit functioning, they are able to identify and utilize their core strengths and create for themselves a happier and more balanced life.

My approach to treatment includes both cognitive and behavioral methods. Therapy is an interactive and collaborative process and clients are encouraged to actively participate. I create a safe and judgment free environment where clients can gain insight and awareness and focus on solutions.

Kara Ker

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than 15 years experience in supporting people of all ages navigate both distressing and exciting life transitions. I believe that to achieve true wellness and find balance in life, it is necessary to attend to the body, mind, heart and spirit. I also believe that everyone has inherent strength to achieve great potential by overcoming life’s most difficult challenges and healing from painful experiences.

Whether you are seeking a shorter term “tune-up” or a longer therapeutic relationship, I am here to support you. I use a variety of therapeutic approaches, depending on an individual’s needs and goals: mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and (shorter term) solution-focused brief therapy. Together, we will explore your values, hopes and expectations as they relate to your therapeutic goals.

Alexander Technique

Sarah Ittmann Leite

The Alexander Technique is a mind and body re-education process, which restores poise of the body and improvement of posture.

During a typical lesson I will use the combination of my hands gently guiding your body coupled with verbal directions to lead you to a new experience in basic movements such as sitting, standing, lifting objects, walking, breathing and more. I have enjoyed working with dancers, yogis and athletes, students, singers and musicians, and anyone searching for greater ease in movement and activity. Small changes and deeper awareness will undo tension or pain accumulated from old injuries or hours of stooped posture in daily activities.

In a series of lessons we can retrieve the natural way your body can move.  The way that I teach each student varies. For each individual I will identify pathways of understanding that allow you to retrieve this new pattern when you move through your daily activities, hobbies, or performance in your professional life. Many students will bring in their musical instrument, or I will meet them in their car, or set up a work station. This creates an opportunity to see what is really happening, and then adjust how daily tasks are effecting body posture and mechanics. Some of the most simple changes can release the biggest obstacles and move us towards freedom of movement. Students report: less neck and back pain, better rest at night, more range of motion in their movement and more resonant sound from their instrument.

Sarah Ittmann Leite - Sarah is a graduate of AT MidAtlantic and teaches the Alexander Technique in Baltimore City. She is a current member the American Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (AmSAT) and is an AmSAT certified Alexander Technique teacher.  Sarah teaches private and group lessons at Yoga Tree Top.

As well as teaching the Alexander Technique, Sarah is the owner and senior yoga teacher at Yoga Tree. She co-leads the Yoga Teacher Training there and brings into all aspects of her work and life a curiosity for how we can move, communicate, and live with more ease. She is a graduate of Maryland University of Integrative Health, a wife and a mother. She has found that the Alexander Technique supports these roles and looks forward to working with you to uncover greater ease in your daily life.

Lessons are 45 minutes long and cost $60.
